POETIC LINKS

A collection that exhibits a contrast in time. A contrast between generations. A contrast of individuality. A contrast between accepted standards. A contrast of emotion.

What started this collection?

As a creative who doesn’t usually feel comfortable referring to myself as an artist, I have longed for years to express my artistry in a beautiful and emotionally raw capacity. I knew that I would only share this inner desire when the time and message was right. Choosing to honor my South Korean heritage through this collection, I wanted to make sure the designs were not an obvious visual, but rather, thought provoking.

When did you know the time was right?

It wasn’t until a past visit to Gyeongbokgung Palace in Seoul during winter. It was so peaceful; snow was gently resting down on the roof tiles, the surrounding architecture and the grounds. Being present in that moment evoked a sense of curiosity for my current surroundings and I delved into the design details whether they were obvious or hidden. From that moment, I felt as though this new collection could be more than just design, but a way to preserve my art and to share the beauty of South Korea.

Gyeongbokgung Palace is a historically important and iconic destination to visit when in Seoul. The sheer scale of the palace and the grounds impress, telling a story of times past and present. View the palace video and design references below.

What can we see from this collection?

Poetic Links was the chosen title for this collection. I view this collection and hope admirers of this collection can see more than just high jewelry design but in fact, a link of storytelling, appreciation for art and a crossover of talent between generations. Respecting elements of preserved ancestral craftsmanship was a very interesting reference point to add into the designs when I first started to develop them. The collection embraces a touch of the architecture, design and materials found within the palace and the palace grounds.

The collection consists of 3 pieces; a lariat necklace, brooch, and drop earrings. Bridging the trio, the custom 18k white gold chain links feature throughout and represent the ‘link’ to the design inspiration. The necklace and brooch have the versatility of being combined for a grand display - I imagine this combination being worn at an important gala, celebration or red carpet event.

Tell us more about each design.

Necklace - The custom 18k white gold chain links are the intended prominent design feature for this piece. To increase the already dramatic look, a central round modern brilliant cut diamond bonds the necklace to the 4.1” lariat drop and the diamond set rings.

Brooch - Architecturally inspired by the palace roof line, the brooch is framed by custom step-cut diamonds which gives this piece the pronounced shape. The diamond encrusted middle section of the brooch is an interpreted vision of the impressive throne room ceiling; home to two seven clawed golden dragons and repeated painted pattern. Accompanying the brooch when worn on its own is a dedicated diamond pin.

Earrings - Matching the style of the lariat drop in the necklace, the earrings command attention of their own as a standout statement piece of high jewelry. The round modern brilliant cut diamond studs suspend the 1.8” custom chain links and connecting diamond set rings.
